Future sites of olympic games

The sport of break-dancing will be added to the Olympics for According to the IOC, this Olympics will mark the first time that two separate cities will share official hosting duties for the Games. The event will be the fourth Olympics to be held in Italy, and the third to be held there during the winter.

Rome hosted the Olympics during the summer of A new sport will make its debut at this Olympics, as the discipline of ski mountaineering is expected to make its first appearance. The sport involves competitors climbing up the side of a mountain on skis, and then descending the mountain with those same skis. For the first time in 26 years, the United States will host an Olympics, with Los Angeles earning its chance to host the Games for the third time in history, meaning it will also join London and Paris in that exclusive club.

The United States has hosted more Olympics than any other nation, and the Games will mark the ninth time that the competition has taken place here. The Games in Atlanta were the most recent summer edition of the event to be held in the country, with the Olympics in St. Moreover, China becomes just the ninth country to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics. As far as geography is concerned, Beijing will mark the last in three straight Olympic Games hosted in East Asian countries: Pyeongchang, South Korea hosted the Winter Games, followed by Tokyo in and, finally, Beijing in The games will include events across several "clusters," including those held in the Olympic Green, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou.

Bidding for the Summer Olympics began in The Summer Games, scheduled for July 26 through August 11, , will give France its sixth overall Olympic competition: The first came in , when it hosted the second-ever modern Olympics, also in Paris.

The Summer Games will not only mark the third overall for France, but also its first in years: The previous Games took place in Paris and Paris. Paris will also become just the third city after London , , to host three Summer Games. It will also consist of several venues spread throughout the area, including the Grand Paris zone eight sports , Paris Center zone 19 sports , Versailles four sports and outlying zones six sports.

The Winter Olympics will mark the first time two cities are listed as hosts in an official capacity. The Winter Games, scheduled to take place from Feb. Los Angeles was named as the host of the Olympics in a concurrent announcement for Paris in Los Angeles also hosted the and Summer Games. The Summer Olympics will be the ninth time the U. The stadiums are extravagant and concrete, the media has taken over with hundreds of millions watching the games globally, and more women are competing then ever before!

If all of this has happened in the last years, just think about the possibilities for the future. The Olympics have historically been divided into two gender categories: male and female. But nowadays, with an increasing amount of transgender and intersex athletes, this concept has been highly criticized and negotiated. As of November , however, transgender athletes could compete alongside the gender they identify as, without needing to complete genital reconstruction surgery.

This rule was a game changer, and shared mixed opinions amongst the public. Currently, the only requirements for trans-women are 12 months on hormone therapy, and there are no set requirements for trans-men.

This decision allowed many more trans athletes to compete in the Olympics in Rio, a hard battle that many have been fighting for years. Since this decision, the IOC has received mixed judgment and media attention. In terms of inclusivity, the IOC have received many positive reviews. But in terms of fairness they received harsh harassment that primarily focused around male to female transitions.

When a man makes the transition to a woman, there are also things that he cannot get rid of, including height, structure and some of their male muscle mass.

For many, this is seen as an unfair advantage. But this advantage is often disclaimed by stating that muscle mass and height could also be a disadvantage in some sports. Chris Mosier, the first transgender man to compete on Team USA also put critics to shame with his statement:.

For as long as sports have been around, there have been people who have had advantages over others. A universal level playing field does not exist. So what exactly does this all mean for the future of the Olympics games?

Ada Palmer, author of the science fiction novel, Too Like the Lightning , predicts that instead of dividing into male and female categories, everyone would compete in the same category.

Humana, however, brings up a problem with this conclusion: Will this promote women to reach their full potentials? Will there be enough support for them to succeed to the same levels as men? As stated above, every athlete has his or her advantages. It is these advantages that allow athletes to succeed in their sport of choice. But when we talk about these advantages, we are really talking about their genetic differences. This was first confirmed in a study performed by the Heritage Family Study, where 21 genes were isolated to be responsible for aerobic ability.

After isolating the 21 genes, the scientists were able to conclude that athletes who had 19 or more of these genes showed 3 times more improvement in aerobic capacity. This, therefore, confirmed that there was in fact a genetic basis to athletic ability and it paved the way for further research on the topic. When training for the m, Epstein noticed that he was able to surpass his teammate, even though he started at a much lower level and had the exact same training regiment.

His geneticist, Albert de la Chapelle, says that it no doubt gave his the advantage that he needed. The manipulation of embryonic DNA seems like a topic for science fiction, but this idea may be closer to reality than we think.

On May 10 th , researchers met at Harvard for a closed-door meeting to discuss the recent advancements in genetic research. However, this brings up another very interesting question!

Sports thrive off of competition. Upon examination of the financial and economic side of the Olympics, most agree upon the unsustainability of its current state.
